Band Parents Association

The DHSBPA is a non-profit parent volunteer organization. The mission of the DHSBPA is to support the Decatur High band program (musicians, drill team, and color guard), including financial support to supplement funds from the City Schools of Decatur (CSD) and parental involvement in band activities. The overall goal is to provide an enriching band experience for all students who participate in the band which includes:



  • Purchasing and repairing instruments
  • Funding additional classroom and marching band program instruction
  • Purchasing musical arrangements
  • Organizing and running band camp
  • Purchasing and maintaining the marching band uniforms
  • Providing financial aid to students.

  • Attend meetings and take thorough notes of the proceedings.   
  • Distribute notes to the Board for approval. 
  • Send approved minutes to communications person to be posted to the website and stored in the band's Google Drive. 
  • Sign documents as needed.  
Treasurer: Emily Berg (ekberg140@gmail.com); Eric Gogstad(eric.gogstad@gmail.com)


The treasurer manages all the money that is paid to the DHSBPA and paid out by the DHSBPA.  The DHSPBA is a 501c3 non-profit organization with an annual budget of at least $65,000.  

The treasurer's responsibilities include: 
  • Posting all payments to the band program, via check, cash, PayPal and Square
  • Invoicing all students for band dues and performance fees (Honor Band, All State, JanFest, Fall & Spring Solo & Ensemble)
  • Paying all expenses for the DHSBPA 
  • Maintain budget-spread and send reports to the President and VP on a monthly basis (budget, profit/loss summary, customer balance summary)
  • Attend all board meetings and communicate financial updates with the board and parents
  • Provide cash boxes to the DHSBPA for all fundraising events.  
  • Provide reports for all fundraising events that breaks down income and expenses and total net
  • Work with CPA to get Form 990 and W-2's filed
  • Execute contracts for all instructors and get W-2's




Committee Chairs

Fundraising:  Lynne Norton(lynnenorton@mindspring.com)  and Irene Sandler(sandler140@att.net)
  • Creates and coordinates list of prospect sponsors, recruits new sponsors
  • Manages relationships with current sponsors
  • Coordinates all band sponsorship programs including individual memberships
  • Our two person fundraising team raised 30k this year for the band program (both marching and concert combined)!!!

Concessions: Lisa Thompson(lisathompson050@gmail.com)
  • Attend all home football games, working in the concession stand. This includes sales, food prep and cleanup after the game.
  • Order food and supplies each week for the concession stand based on sales and attendance from last year and previous games sales
  • Pick up and deliver food and supplies from vendors the week of the game
  • Arrive the afternoon of each home game to prepare food for sale
  • Inventory after each game
  • Negotiate discounts and donations with local businesses for food and supplies for concession stand

Communications
Social Media - Emily Peters(emilymontessori@gmail.com)
  • Post band events and pin important items to the top of the Facebook page
  • Promote and recognize our sponsors on social media
  • Scan City of Decatur posts and repost articles pertaining to the band or music education in Decatur
  • Post photos/videos of performances including marching band competitions and LGPE
  • Post sponsor-related info on the Decatur Business and neighborhood pages 
VolunteerSign Up Coordinator: Betsy LeBeau(betsylebeau@gmail.com)
  • Attend band parent meetings to find out about upcoming events/volunteer needs
  • Work with Mr. Truan and coordinators of upcoming band activities to determine how many volunteers are needed and all the logistical details
  • Post all available volunteer opportunities to the band online Sign Up Spot
  • Keep in touch with coordinators and just prior to their event, inform them of their volunteers
  • Work with other communications committee members to keep members aware of volunteer position availability/vacancies
Website/Calendar/Eblasts:  Ilene Zeff(zeffmans@gmail.com)
  • Maintain and update Google Blogger website
  • Work with Mr. Tuan and the Band Parents Association to keep the band calendar updated
  • Send Constant Contact eblasts as needed
