JOIN THE DHS BAND!

The 2012-2013 Commitment form is online! If you intend to join the DHS Marching Band for our exciting 2012 season, click the DOWNLOADS tab, and print the commitment form.  Submit this form and a $200 deposit by April 2!

Ask around! Students are learning great music and having a GREAT time! Join us next year for a possible trip to NYC!

District Honor Band Schedule

DISTRICT HONOR BAND WEEK!

If you made district honor band, please see the schedule below! CONGRATS to you!

*Bring lunch and dinner money for Friday! Lunch money for Saturday!

Friday, February 10 – Arrive at DHS by 7:45
Load the bus, leave DHS at 8:10
Arrive at Stephenson High School – 8:40
You will do the SAME on Saturday!

Friday night you should be home around 9 pm.

SATURDAY – Please note that you will not have time to come home before the concert.  Bring CONCERT BLACK with you on Saturday!!

Concerts for high school: 3:30, 9/10 Honor Band; 4:30, 11/12

There will be NO bus returning on Saturday.  Parents are responsible for coming to the concert and picking students up.

A detailed schedule was given out with your permission form.  Please reference it and see Mrs. Williams with questions!

1. Music is an incredible way to USE your brain! It’s proven that students who study music do better in school, better in college, and better on all standardized tests! Music utilizes parts of your brain like no other activity

2. FRIENDSHIPS! You make friends that you keep for the rest of your life! You might even meet the person you marry…ew, right??

3. TRIPS! Next year, Decatur High is planning an amazing trip to New York City! It is not guaranteed yet, but we are hoping to take a HUGE group to NYC!

4. HONORS! Decatur High School has sent 17 students to District Honor Band, 3 students to Governor’s Honors, several to music camps, Atlanta Honor ensembles and much much more! And the MARCHING BAND has won SUPERIORS at competitions for the first time in over a decade!

5. PLAY MUSIC! You get to learn music from all over the world, written in different styles by a huge variety of composers.

This weekend 28 Decatur High School students auditioned for the District IV Honor Band.  The auditioned with over 600 students from schools in Dekalb, Fulton, Rockdale, Jasper and Newton Counties.  Our students represented themselves VERY well and the ones listed below were named to the two honor bands.  More of our students will continue on to the all state phase of auditions.  Please congratulate these students for their hard work!! It is a very competitive audition process!
